We want to remind everyone who commutes into San Francisco that a one-day bus strike has been called by Golden Gate Transit unions for this Friday, October 17, 2014.
There have been spot outages from sickouts affecting a few routes in recent weeks, but this is a full system strike for the day.
Expect the ferry parking lots and commute hour sailings to be more full than usual, since many bus riders will instead go there. Nothing has been announced as being planned, but there's a possibility of ferry service being impacted by more people than usual calling in sick that day.
If you have a critical meeting in the City it will be prudent to take the ferry that sails before the "ideal time" so that if boats are full or running behind you're still OK.
Marin Transit is a separate organization from Golden Gate Transit (which is operated by the Bridge District), but it contracts with the Bridge District to run some of its routes. Here's a list of the routes that Marin Transit expects to be OK and those they expect to be affected:
Routes Affected by the One Day Strike
The affected routes are centered on those heavily used by commuters: Routes 17, 22, 23, 29, 35, 36, 45, 49, 71, 126, 127 and 117 (except the service that runs to Cove Park).
Routes That Should Operate Normally Friday
Community Shuttle, West Marin Stagecoach, and most of the school tripper service should be operating normally.
