Decades before the Dane took over the lighthouse (and did a marvelous job doing so, btw), our grandfather used to take us there when it was called ‘Paul’s Lighthouse’, run by a notoriously rum-dum chef called Paul and his cranky sea hag of a wife who waited tables. Paul's ‘specialty’ was his meat loaf sandwich, a slab of mystery meat on toast which would make even the most seaworthy sailor blanch. Lipstick stains embedded in those cheap plastic water glasses …. the whole thing was straight outta Moby Dick. Rockers like David Crosby (who owned a houseboat nearby), members of the Grateful Dead and others frequented Paul’s on a regular basis while recording their classic albums in Sausalito in the late 1960’s.
